French Crepe

A meal that's perfect for any occasion - the ideal breakfast with the family, a satisfying midday meal, and not to mention, a family favourite in many parts of the world (especially in Europe) - the French Crepe!

What is a French Crepe? 

Similar in appearance and taste to pancakes to a certain degree, you could think of crepes as ultra thin & delicate 'pancakes' - although they are, in essence, significantly different. Unlike pancakes, crepes are traditionally topped with much more than just maple syrup - popular accompaniments include fruits (especially berries), cheese, melted chocolate, or anything sweet or savoury that you can get your hands on!  

In France, it is not uncommon for crepes to be the first recipe that children learn. It's implausibly easy to make, requires only a handful of ingredients, and tastes like heaven - and also brings nostalgia to many.

Key ingredients   

The great thing about making French crepes is that all the key ingredients you need are probably already stocked up in your kitchen!

We've used Eifix pasteurised whole egg, Van Gilse caster sugar, hazelnut butter, T45 flour, and UHT milk.

Top tips from our chef  

Batter can be prepared the night before and stored overnight in an airtight container to make fresh crepes the next day.

If you prefer savoury over sweet, you can replace the caster sugar in this recipe with a pinch of black pepper.

You can replace the UHT milk with dairy-free almond milk if you're lactose intolerant - doing so will slightly alter the taste, and add crispiness to the crepe.
